Book Review: Under the Never Sky

Under the Never Sky

Veronica Rossi
Dystopia/Paranormal Romance/Science Fiction

4 stars

"A world of nevers under a never sky."

What makes a good book for me always starts with the MC. That can make or break a book. Well, the MC's made this book for me.

Now, the dystopian world that Rossi has created, is of course original in its own. I like the fact that the sky, or the Aether, was an enemy, a very dangerous aspect within the story.

Of course, I am a big fan of dystopian books, and a lot have been popping out lately, but this one is diffidently worth reading.

Aria is the heroine that I like to read about! She does what she can and  she doesn't stop fighting until she has accomplished what she set out to do. Aria doesn't need a 'guy'  to always to be there, saving her. She is a very strong character, and I love, I mean love, strong female characters. I guess it's the fact that if I was a character in a book, I would be that, kick-ass, falcon punch, no need to call batman, kind of girl. All the boys would be bowing down to me and the hot, mouth-dropping, drool worthy, bad-ass guy, with dangerous good looks would fall for me. *a girl can dream, right?*  Well, that's Aria, and of course she gets that guy, Perry or Peregrine.
Which I love that name, totally swoon worthy, in my opinion.  Perry, another strong MC, even though he is a 'savager' rescues Aria, which in turn sets off a chain reaction of events, which then leads the two characters together and fighting for their lives and the lives of those they love.

Aria lives within the protection of the Pod and Perry, a savager, lives in the dangerous, unknown world outside.. Now, Rossi does not get into detail on just how the world has ended up into this state, and hopefully that fact will be revealed in the other books, but the mystery of it, is quite nice, leaves me playing the guessing game on 'how did the world almost get destroyed and all that.'

Rossi also uses split narration between Aria and Perry, usually this doesn't work for most authors, but for Rossi, she did a great job. I was able to understand both characters and the reasons behind their actions.

I also found that I like that the 'outsiders' or the 'savager's' had enhanced abilities, because of the exposure of Aether. Aether, what a mysterious force and unknow substance...hhmmm....

And the plot, not complicated, was worth reading and the story was something I truly enjoyed.
The only thing I didn't like was the fact she would jump and then an amount of time would pass, we would miss chucks of time, from a few days to even months.

I'm the kind of reader who loves detail and knowing every aspect of the characters. But other than that, this is a must read and I am non-patiently waiting for the next edition of this book.

Favorite Quotes:

“She looked up. “A world of nevers under a never sky.”
She fit in well then, he thought. A girl who never shut up.”

“She absorbed the terror and beauty of him and his world. Of every moment over the past days. All of it, filling her up like the first breath she'd ever taken. And never had she loved life more.”
