Series: Convenant, #2
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Genre: Young Adult
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
There is need. And then there is Fate...
Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.
When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.
When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.
I have been staring at the calender waiting, oh so not patiently, for this book.
And when it came out earlier than the date it was suppose to, let's just say I was a very happy girl.
I skipped doing my school work, and I have an essay that I am now behind on because of this.
Oh well, I really don't care at this point.
Books are much more important.
Especially when it's a series that I really like.
And the Covenant series is one of those books.
Now, Pure is just like it's first book, Half-Blood, a nice fast-paced read.
It has a nice flow, even with the 'down scenes' and the action feels natural and the pace of the overall book is quite nice.
It's an amazing action packed and enjoyable sequel.
The book starts right where the first one left off.
And you are throw right into the plot, quite nicely too.
Right into the dilemmas that Alex's always seems to find herself in.
For the characters, I think Armentrout knows how to create very interesting, lovable, and amazing characters.
That is especially true for her female characters.
Alex, the main character, is just that, bad ass, drop kick you in the gut, falcon punch, I don't need batman, kind of chick.
She is smart mouth and she will punch you in the face.
And I love her.
Then there is Aiden.
Oh. Dear. Lord.
Not only can Armentrout create feisty female characters, she makes amazing swoon-worthy male characters.
Ones you wish you could rip right out of the book and tackle.
Keep in your closet and all those nice things
Aiden is a pure-blood, forbidden to be with half-bloods like Alex.
The love that Aiden and Alex have is, to me, beautiful.
And oh for the love of daimon babies everywhere, I want them to be together.
Aiden proves his love to Alex, in Pure, in one of the most intense and most dangerous ways.
But with him being a Pure-blood, he must hide his love for Alex, just like she has to hide hers.
And it pisses me off, I hate the breed order.
I want it changed, and I hope it does.
Then there's Seth, arrogant, funny, stubborn, Seth.
The interesting love triangle.
Now like I have mentioned, I am not a fan of love triangles.
They usually end up with me wanted to pull my hair out.
However, even with the hair pulling urges, I like Seth, to a point.
And with Pure we get to see Seth more and with that we get to understand him more.
Which is good, 'cause I never really liked him, but I'm starting to like him more now.
However, he's still not my favorite.
He seems fishy in a way.
Or maybe that's just me.
And you can tell he's set up to be on the losing side of the love-triangle.
Or so it seems.
Now with the interesting love aspect of this book, there is the action and the nice and believable aspect of the mythology in the book.
Gotta love them Greek gods.
And Armentrout knows how to mix reality with mythology seamlessly.
That is one of the reasons I just absolutely enjoy this book, well, other than the romance.
Which even though it's a big part of the book, doesn't consume it.
The action is just as amazing and grips you to be absorbed within the pages of this story.
The design of the book makes for an amazing story line, plot and characters.
With the last few pages you are left with ,wtf feelings and oh.my.god. why isn't the 3rd book out yet, anticipation.
She leaves us with more questions and nail biting apprehension.
Fun and addicting.
But flows beautifully.
A great sequel to Half-blood.
Armentrout has done an amazing job and I love her books. So, I cannot wait for the 3rd installment of the wonderful Covenant series.
