Review: Embrace (Violet Eden Chapters, #1) by Jessica Shirvington

Embrace (The Violet Eden Chapters, #1)Title: Embrace
Series: Violet Eden Chapters #1
Author: Jessica Shirvington
Category: Paranormal/ Romance/ Sci-Fi/ Urban Fantasy
Genre: Young Adult
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
It starts with a whisper: “It’s time for you to know who you are…”

Violet Eden dreads her seventeenth birthday. After all, it’s hard to get too excited about the day that marks the anniversary of your mother’s death. As if that wasn’t enough, disturbing dreams haunt her sleep and leave her with very real injuries. There’s a dark tattoo weaving its way up her arms that wasn’t there before.

Violet is determined to get some answers, but nothing could have prepared her for the truth. The guy she thought she could fall in love with has been keeping his identity a secret: he’s only half-human—oh, and same goes for her.

A centuries-old battle between fallen angels and the protectors of humanity has chosen its new warrior. It’s a fight Violet doesn’t want, but she lives her life by two rules: don’t run and don’t quit. When angels seek vengeance and humans are the warriors, you could do a lot worse than betting on Violet Eden…

Look for the sequels ENTICED in September 2012 and EMBLAZE in March 2013!

My Review:

This book definitely gives a new twist on angel/fallen angel genre books.
That is what basically attracted me to this book in the first place.
Embrace has a nice plot, interesting story line and like able characters.

From the get go the book draws you in with mystery and intrigue. From Violet's mysteries mother and the story or 'clues' she leaves behind for Violet to find.
Then as her 17th birthday draws ever closer, things start to get down right 'unusual' for Violet,
and it seems her good friend Lincoln knows why.
But won't tell her anything.

Violet character's is one that starts out strong and like able but when things start changing she turns into a girl who just runs and hides, but with the situation she is thrown into I guess it's understandable why.
Eventually though, she shows she's more of an take action kind of girl, and that's the kind of main characters I like.

Also, Lincoln, Violet's best friend, is a very like able character, who should of been more in the story.
Yeah, he's one of those guy characters. You just fall in love with him.
Well, I did...
I didn't like how he was treated by Violet, but he is the simple, every day hero.

And then there's Phoenix, the guy thrown in for the love triangle.
Dark, moody and also so broody. (HAHA)
Phoenix is definitely the opposite of Lincoln.
I didn't like Phoenix very much, he always seemed odd.
I knew he was up to something.
I was able to also come to the conclusion on what exactly, so that's a downturn for the book.

Now, when reading the book I found myself having to stop and reread things, especially when it came to the hierarchy of the angels.
It could be a bit overwhelming at times.
And frankly I was left confused at points within the book.
There was just some things that didn't add up and the world Shirvington created was intriguing
but, at times too much.
And somethings it didn't much sense to me.
The idea of the angels and their world was different and added a new spice to this genre, however it should of been easier to follow.
And the Grigori, well, they just didn't make that much impression on me. I just didn't get the sense of that power they were suppose to have.

However, I found this book to be a great read and I will be reading the next books.
I found I enjoyed being in Shirvington's world.
I do hope the plot line gets a bit better with the next instillation.
Embrace is a nice YA read.
