Review: Onyx (Lux, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Onyx
Series: Lux, #2
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Category: Urban Fantasy/Paranormal/Romance
Genre: Mature Young Adult
Rating: 5 stars out of 5
Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

My Review:

“I could always give you a teaser. You bookish people love teasers, don't you?”

This is going to be an extremely hard review to write, I can’t put into words how amazing this book is!
My mind is still going over the awesomeness of it!

Onyx was beyond beautiful.

It was everything I expected but also so much more.
It is a great second installment to the Lux series.
My brain is still reeling from it.

Onyx picks up literally the next day after the events that happened at the end of Obsidian. Both Daemon and Katy are still trying to figure out what happened. And what happened has left them both in a whirlwind of emotions. They soon discover something has happened to Katy, she’s, well, a little different now. And they both agree it’s best to keep the events secret from Dee and the others. Which is something they both believe is the right thing to do.

But things are changed now.
 Nothing is the same.
And both Daemon and Katy have to discover what exactly happened. But soon, they realized they have much more on their plate. If things couldn’t get any more intense, they do, the infamous DOD has shown up in town. And they are acting weird, asking a lot of questions.

Then a new cute guy starts school and he starts taking an interest in Katy. Katy sees this as opportunity to have some ‘normal’ in her life, and maybe but a little distance between Daemon and herself.
But Daemon never steps down from a challenge, he wants to prove to Katy that what he feels is real. He is damn set on proving to her that his feelings are not a byproduct of his alien mojo.

And he goes out and beyond to prove this to Katy, yet she fights him tooth and nail.

And to just add more to the ever growing pile of troubles for Daemon and Katy, there is someone alive who shouldn’t be, someone is also lying to them, and shocking revelations are being revealed.
Their world is literally turned upside down.  Nothing is at all what it seems for Katy and Daemon.

Jen has done it again.

She has stunned me, blew me away, and left my mind in a pile of utter mind numbing mush. After I read the last page, I didn’t know what to do. All I could think about was Onyx, ever event that occurred, everything that happened, and all the characters. I couldn’t and still can’t get Onyx out of my mind.

Then there is Daemon ;)

Daemon pulls out the big guns in this book. He is literally, and most likely will always be, my number one favorite male character and fictional book boyfriend. Daemon not only swept Katy off her feet, but dear sweet baby Jesus, I was swooning so hard.. He has developed so much from the first book, however, he is still the same ole Daemon we first fall in love with. We just get to see so much more of him. Daemon is one multi-dimensional character.

He had me wanting to shake him, slap him, and kiss him all at the same time. His witty humor and smartass comments are also back, in full force. Daemon will blow you away and mind explosions will ensue!

Katy wasn't one to stand around, never has been, and even with Daemon trying to prove his feelings for her, she is a fireball! Throughout most of the book, Katy is determined to prove to herself and to Daemon the only reason he feels anything towards her is because of all that alien mojo. Or, alien cooties, as she likes to call it. I wanted to shake her so badly at times, by the way she acted. However, I could understand the reasons behind each of her decisions. And we all know the way that boy feels for her is all him *wink wink*, but she fights him.
Katy is by far my all-time favorite chick character. She is a fighter and will protect Daemon and the one’s she loves at any cost. All I can say is, god, Katy and Daemon are both so stubborn.

“If there is anything, there is us.
You and me. No one else.”

But what made, not only Katy and Daemon amazing characters, but the others as well is that they are all flawed. They have their weaknesses, they make mistakes. However, they learn from them.  And that makes each character so real, raw and amazing.

And not only does each character have to deal with alien problems, but also real human problems, I believe that brings such an amazing factor to the story.

The plot was also so captivating, the twists will shock you, and things happened that I never expected to happen. Jen surprised me big time, and mind explosions once again occurred.
The book was paced amazingly with the action. Each event lead perfectly to the next. The witty humor and clever quick writing style is remarkable.

Then the ending…Oh, holy alien babies everywhere, that ending!!
It will have your mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water! I had to re-read it a few times, just to make sure my sleep deprived brain had read it right.  And honestly, I had a feeling something like that would happen.. Yeah, amazing!

Jen just throws that twist and others at you, out of nowhere.
I know it's going to be a very long and nail-biting wait for Opal.

You will experience every emotion from this book, you will laugh, you will sigh, you will swoon, gasp, cry and rejoice! It will have you at the edge of your seat, biting your nails, and your heart will feel like it’s going to beat out of your chest.
You will not be able to put this book down.

Yeah, it’s that amazing.. I keep saying that don’t I?
It’s a book that will give you a book hangover!

I also learned how to use the word douche in a bunch of nice and different ways *evil snicker*

I really, seriously, wholeheartedly need Opal… now…

This book you will not be able to put down once you pick up. I read till I couldn’t even see straight. So, when reading Onyx, make sure you will not have any interruptions, are comfortable and have time to finish.
Onyx is wonderfully told and beautifully spun.
I experienced so many emotions and I am so happy I was along for the ride of this book.
Jen has outdone herself, beyond anything I could ever imagine.
The characters are back with a force.

The story took a turn I never expected.
I was beyond consumed with this book, I lived it, I experienced it.

So, if you haven’t started the Lux series yet, then what the hell are you waiting for??!!

“Kitten,” he said again, voice strained.

”You don’t get to do that and then stop. That’s not it works.”

I stared at him, my breath stalling in my lungs.

“Not when you’re mine.”
Daemon backed us up and slid down the wall, pulling me onto his lap so I was straddling him.

“And you’re mine.”
