In My Mailbox: Madly & the Jackal (Madly, #3)

Madly and The Jackal ( Madly, #3)
M. Leighton

YA/ Fantasy/ Romance
(18 and up)

How deep does love run? Deeper than the ocean? Deeper than memory? Deeper than magic?

Following their plan to save Atlas, Madly and Jackson return the spirit of Wolfhardt to his prison beneath the sea. But even the best laid plans couldn’t account for the surprises they find. This time, Lore aren’t their only challenges.

Madly is special in ways no one could have guessed and dark forces seek to control her. They want her power, but first they must weaken her. They need her beaten. Vulnerable. Near death. And alone. But that task isn’t an easy one with Jackson at her side. The strongest of their kind, the only way to separate Jackson from Madly is to destroy his love for her, to erase it from his mind. And his heart.

Is it possible to steal Jackson’s love from Madly? Or is their love the only truly unbreakable thing?

Review: Madly (Madly, #1 & 2) by M. Leighton

Title: Madly
Series: Madly, #1 & 2
Author: M. Leighton
Category: Fantasy/Romance
Genre: New Adult
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
Madly is your average nearly-eighteen year old girl—for a princess, that is.

Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in the small town of Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, the magically-protected home of Madly’s race. A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

In order to save her home, the lives of her family, and all of humanity, Madly must learn to wield her exceptional powers and recapture the Lore before it’s too late and all is lost. But Madly’s only help are her two best friends and the Sentinel, Jackson Hamilton, that threatens both her heart and her destiny. Madly has loved Jackson as long as she can remember, but he is the one thing even a princess can’t have. Can she resist love to become the queen she was fated to be? Or can she find a way to have both?

This novelette introduces you to Madly and prepares you for the quest of a lifetime.

My Review:

A short sweet novelette, a great introduction to the story, the plot and especially the characters.
Even though it was fast paced, I didn’t get the feeling of being rushed. It flowed nicely in my opinion and it definitely captured my curiosity.

It was written beautifully.
Short and to the point.
Getting you geared up for the next Madly book.
And boy, am I geared up for it! As soon as I finished the novelette, I got M. Leighton’s next book Madly & the Wolfhartd (the second book).
I stayed up till 3a.m. just to consume as much as I could. And ,well, to consume me some Jackson *cough cough* I mean the story. :)
And who would of believed that a mix of fairy tales and mythology could mix seamlessly. Mermaids and werewolves?? Remarkable.

Like a melting pot, blending together smoothly and beautifully.
To create such a mix, to form a story like no other, to bring the reader into a world all of its own, simply amazing and wonderful.

Now for the main heroine, Madly, a mermaid princess.
I like this character.
She's  bit stubborn, but what good heroine with a backbone isn’t. She’s feisty and she doesn’t sit around and wait for shit to happen, she makes things happen. If she has to step up, especially out of her comfort zone, to help someone she will. Without a backwards glance.
She appears strong, in mind and in spirit. That’s the kind of heroines I like reading about. That’s the kind of woman I like and the kind I would be like. No sitting up in the tower waiting, no, donning her armor and preparing to fight with everyone else.

Now Jackson,
A swoon worthy male.
*heh heh*
He seems a bit moody, at first.
But maybe it’s just me, but he seems confused with his emotions for Madly or he simply wants to deny his feelings for her.
But under his hard exterior, he is a lovable, fun and admirable guy.
One that makes all the girls sigh. :)
And his love for his sister is adorable.
He is strong and fights for what he believes in.
Does what he believes is right.
And he knows Madly is strong.
They don't stand with Jackson in front and Madly behind him, oh no, they stand side-by-side.
I love the fact that both Jackson and Madly just piss each other off just to get under the other’s skin.
I believe that is the main reason they are drawn to each other.

Their passion is hot and fiery.
An active volcano.
One that is about to erupt and one that will never die, just consume.
At first, I was feeling like there attraction was forced, but I was proven wrong as I delved deeper into the story.
Now, forbidden love, *sigh*  Madly being a princess and Jackson just a warrior, a Sentinel whose job is to only  protect Altas, their underwater world, and the princess.
They are forbidden to love.
*cue sighs and heart-warming moments now*
But they have loved each other for years, since their youth.
And forbidden love won’t stop them.
This is a good forbidden love story, one with a strong heroine and a hero who protects the princess, but also knows she can fend for herself, too. That is a great strength for a story, and it shows.
It took my breath away.
Their love will shine through, their attraction will draw you in, and their heart-warming moments to their fighting, will just leave you begging for more.

Now, let’s not forget the two side-kicks, Jersey and Aiden.
Madly’s two best friends and partners-in-crime.

Jersey, the spunky, short, best friend with a nervous gum habit.
Always there for Madly and to be the best partner-in-crime a friend could ask for. Always ready to get in trouble with Madly. When one wants to do something against the rules, just ask for Jersey, she will be by your side in a heartbeat, mostly likely with the biggest smile, too.

Then there is Aiden, the guy Madly is supposed to “marry” however, she only sees him as a big brother of sorts. Though I have a feeling, and you get a glimpse of it. He has more than a friendship feeling for her.
He loves her.
But up against Jackson, well, Aiden is just a wimp.
A little man-boy.
Not my kind of guy...
But he does have his good points, too.
He truly cares for Madly.
And he is a good friend. Always there for both Madly and Jersey.
Madly and Jersey's conscience, always there to let them know, 'this might not be a good idea.'

I am so glad that I picked up this book, at first I wasn’t too sure, but overall an amazing and engaging read.
Now I’m reading  Wolfhardt book 2, and I am loving it so far.
The story is intense, filled with action and the characters must face danger, to save not only the ones they love, but their world under the water.  I really enjoyed the world M. Leighton created, especially her characters.

This is definitely a tale of romance and adventure. I feel those who are fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout will love M. Leighton (especially ‘cause of the swoon worth males*wink wink*) because of the mix of mythology with the modern world.
The strong females.
And what isn't a great story without some hunky, drop dead gorgeous males.

In my Mailbox: Insurgent (Divergent, #2)

Insurgent (Divergent, #2)
Veronica Roth

YA/ Dystopia/ Romanca

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

Oh, Dear me...
I cannot explain how busy I have been lately.
It seems for the past two weeks, anything that could happen, did happen..
I had finals for one thing.
And boy was that fun..
(intended sarcasm)

Thank you sweet mother of Jesus, my finals are over!
I didn't even have time to read.
Which is hard for me to do
(but I somehow managed..)
Then on top of finals so much else happened..
Hopefully things will slow down now
(if not, I will have to falcon punch someone)

And now, since it is summer, I will read all I want!
(that's what I am hoping)
I plan to catch up on my, very long, reading list I have.
And I finally got
*Insert dramatic music here*
INSURGENT!!!
By Veronica Roth
(sigh)
I have been waiting for this book to be out.
Anticipating it! Wanting it!
And Frankly, needing it!

Now, I just the need time to sit down and read it.
(which I will do, by the grace of all those little magical creatures in the world I will, I swear!)

Oh, I will get those reviews up!!!
I need to.
I have just been so busy! Dear lord help me...
(Just thinking about it is pissing me off..)

In My Mailbox: Unraveling

Unraveling

Elizabeth Norris

YA/ Paranormal/ Romance

Two days before the start of her junior year, seventeen-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit by a pickup truck and killed—as in blinding light, scenes of her life flashing before her, and then nothing. Except the next thing she knows, she's opening her eyes to find Ben Michaels, a loner from her high school whom Janelle has never talked to, leaning over her. And even though it isn't possible, she knows—with every fiber of her being—that Ben has somehow brought her back to life.

But her revival, and Ben's possible role in it, is only the first of the puzzles that Janelle must solve. While snooping in her FBI agent father's files for clues about her accident, she uncovers a clock that seems to be counting down to something—but to what? And when someone close to Janelle is killed, she can no longer deny what's right in front of her: Everything that's happened—the accident, the murder, the countdown clock, Ben's sudden appearance in her life—points to the end of life as she knows it. And as the clock ticks down, she realizes that if she wants to put a stop to the end of the world, she's going to need to uncover Ben's secrets—and keep from falling in love with him in the process.

From debut author Elizabeth Norris comes this shattering novel of one girl's fight to save herself, her world, and the boy she never saw coming.

I am very excited to start reading this book.
I have heard some good comments about it and also have read some great reviews.
It sounds quite enjoyable and will be a book that'll keep me entertained.
Which I love when I book captivates me :)

However, I have been up since 1 a.m. and it is now 2 p.m.
To say I am sleepy in quite the understatement.
I can't even form coherent sentences.
Or anything that might resembles actual thoughts.
Therefore, I don't feel like I can actually sit down and enjoy a good book
(that is a tragedy to me, abhorrent!!)

I need some sleep...
And I can't wait to start this book!!

Lockdown (Escape from Furnace,#1)

Alexander Gordon Smith

Horror/ Thriller/ Science Fiction

Furnace Penitentiary: the world’s most secure prison for young offenders, buried a mile beneath the earth’s surface. Convicted of a murder he didn’t commit, sentenced to life without parole, “new fish” Alex Sawyer knows he has two choices: find a way out, or resign himself to a death behind bars, in the darkness at the bottom of the world. Except in Furnace, death is the least of his worries. Soon Alex discovers that the prison is a place of pure evil, where inhuman creatures in gas masks stalk the corridors at night, where giants in black suits drag screaming inmates into the shadows, where deformed beasts can be heard howling from the blood-drenched tunnels below. And behind everything is the mysterious, all-powerful warden, a man as cruel and dangerous as the devil himself, whose unthinkable acts have consequences that stretch far beyond the walls of the prison.
Together with a bunch of inmates—some innocent kids who have been framed, others cold-blooded killers—Alex plans an escape. But as he starts to uncover the truth about Furnace’s deeper, darker purpose, Alex’s actions grow ever more dangerous, and he must risk everything to expose this nightmare that’s hidden from the eyes of the world.
