Title: Before I Wake
Series: Soul Screamers, #6
Author: Rachel Vincent
Category:Paranormal/ Romance
Genre: Young Adult
Rating: 5 stars out of 5
I died on a Thursday—killed by a monster intent on stealing my soul. The good news? He didn't get it.

The bad news? Turns out not even death will get you out of high school….
Covering up her own murder was one thing, but faking life is much harder than Kaylee Cavanaugh expected. After weeks spent "recovering," she's back in school, fighting to stay visible to the human world, struggling to fit in with her friends and planning time alone with her new reaper boyfriend.

But to earn her keep in the human world, Kaylee must reclaim stolen souls, and when her first assignment brings her face-to-face with an old foe, she knows the game has changed. Her immortal status won't keep her safe. And this time Kaylee isn't just gambling with her own life….

My Review:

This book was by far one of my favorites in the series. Rachel's talents shined amazingly in Before I Wake. I thought If I Die took my breath away, well, Before I Wake knocked my socks off! Rachel is just amazing. She has taken this story to places I wouldn’t have imagined, and she has shown just how incredible of an author she is.
"You're not lost, Kaylee. You can't ever be lost, because I'll always know where you are. And if I'm not there with you, I'm on my way, and anything standing between us, won't be standing for very long."
Kaylee’s life has always been different, but then her world takes on a completely different turn. She finds out she is a bean sidhe, or banshee. Kaylee screams for the dead. But finding out she was a bean sidhe was only the beginning. Kaylee’s life is definitely different. She has lost, loved, and found meaning in life. And it has all lead to Before I Wake, where Kaylee is truly tested.

Kaylee, well, she became a virgin sacrifice and died, and now she's back to life. However, not only is she a dead bean sidhe, she also works for the reclamation department.  Life is, or well, death, is just another challenge for Kaylee. But she isn't alone, Tod, the reaper who has loved her for a long time now, puts her before everything, is right there with her. He is the only thing that makes her feel ‘alive’ these days.

As Kaylee tries to have a normal ‘life’, reclaiming lost souls, something is uncovered. An old foe, is back, and he isn't alone. Hell is breaking lose in Kaylee’s life, and no one is safe…

"This seems to be heading into girl-fight territory," Tod said. "Should I make popcorn?"
Kaylee is the kind of heroine I just love to see. She is so strong, I have mentioned that in my other reviews, but in Before I Wake, she proves it even more. With every enemy she has faced, the people she hasn't been able to save, to those she has saved. To having Nash betray her, to finding a love that is making her afterlife worth everything. Kaylee has stood on her two feet, with her head held up as high as she can. That is just amazing!

Tod was just breathtakingly awesome, and I'm even more in love with him. Tod shines in this book, god does he ever. And if you thought you couldn't like, or love him anymore, that boy proves you wrong! Tod has always been my favorite character, other than Kaylee. He has gone to extremes to help her, to protect her and to keep her safe.  He is a selfless character, and his love for Kaylee is beautiful. I am so happy that they have each other, they make sense. Unlike when she was with Nash, their relationship was a disaster just waiting to happen. So, I’m so glad Kaylee realized that Tod was right for her!
"But I'll be fine. I'll be with Tod. He's a good guy, you know. He just hides it under all the sarcasm and curls."
Nash and Sabine… I don’t wanna say anything about them, though Sabine, I like her sometimes..but other times I wanna beat her head in.

Before I Wake was just simply a ride I loved, I couldn't put this book down, and when I had to, I couldn't stop thinking about Kaylee and the gang. So much happened, I really mean that! Enemies pop up left and right for Kaylee, and she is tested every way. The ending was just , wow, I just can’t believe that happened. So, waiting for the next book is going to be torture, with everything that took place, I need With All My Soul now!!!
