24-year old Pax Tate is an asshole. Seriously.
He’s a tattooed, rock-hard bad-boy with a bad attitude to match.
But he’s got his reasons.
His mother died when Pax was seven, leaving a hole in his heart filled with guilt although he doesn’t understand why. What he does know is that he and his dad are left alone and with more issues than they can count.
As Pax grew up, he tried to be the kid his father always wanted; the perfect golden boy, but it didn’t work. His dad couldn’t overcome his grief long enough to notice and Pax couldn’t keep up the impossible perfect façade. So he slipped far, far from it.
Now, he uses drugs and women to cope with the ugliness, the black void that he doesn’t want to deal with. If he pretends that the emptiness isn’t there, then it isn’t, right? Wrong.
And it’s never more apparent than when he meets Mila. Sweet, beautiful Mila Hill is the fresh air to his hardened frown, the beauty to his ugly heart. He doesn’t know how to not hurt her, but he quickly realizes that he’s got to figure it out because he needs her to breathe.
When memories of his mother’s death resurface from where he’s repressed them for so long, Mila is there to catch him when the guilt starts making sense. Mila is the one…the one who can save him from his broken troubled heart; from his issues, from the emptiness.
But only if he can stop being an asshole long enough to allow it.
He knows that. And he’s working on it.
But is that enough to make her stay?

My Mini Review:
Wow! This book, this book!! Now, I wouldn’t have found out about this really exciting read if it wasn’t for Momo over at BooksOverBoys. And I am so, so glad she recommended the book to me, showed me this bad boy was out in the world ready for me to read it.
This book packs quite a punch. It’s a very raw, and to me, real read. And I love books like that. The main character is rough around the edges, true and real. Actually, all the characters felt very real to me. The author made it where I could really imagine them, see them as real people, not fictional characters. So, that reality was a great and very enjoyable factor.
Now, the way the book opens, that first page, it’ll blow you out of the water, that is how you open a book to pull your readers in. Okay, this book isn’t for the younger crowd, and that first page also proves that! She's rambling. And it's cute as hell. I smile. And as I do, I feel like the Big Bad Wolf and she's little Red Riding Hood.
Let’s discuss the leading male, Pax. Oh, Pay!! In the description you get “a tattooed, rock-hard bad-boy,” the moment I read that, I knew had discovered my new fictional crush. He is everything like that, dangerous and sexy, but of course, there is a reason to why he’s such a bad boy. Pax is way more than meets the eye, and as you read, you figure him out. You understand the reasons behind his actions and how he became who he is. Getting to know this character was, well, lovely! He’s one of those guys’ there-is-more-than-meets-the-eye kinds of type. I also really felt for Pax, he’s a complex character, and even with his flaws, I enjoyed him.
Then you have Mila, and I really like her character also. She’s a very innocent girl, an artist. She’s sweet and kind; she is the perfect opposite of Pax. Now, they kind of met in a very different scenario then most characters do, but this draws them together. Though just like Pax, Mila has a few things that happened in her passed that shaped her, made her who she is today. So, like Pax she also grows in her character.
This girl makes me smile like an idiot.
Not only did I enjoy Pax, which I highly did, and Mile, but I enjoyed the few side characters there are. Now, the only thing I didn’t quite enjoy was the pacing. It did flow nicely, however, it was a very fast pace read. But Cole did a good job at making it feel like it wasn’t rushed. I do love the why Courtney writes, her writing style.
If You Stay will have your emotions everywhere, and if you love some bad boys, get ready to fall in love with Pax. It had moments that broke my heart, and moments that put the biggest smile on my face.
If You Stay is a raw, real, short and pleasurable read. And don’t forget, do not read this one in public! Make sure you are alone, comfy and have time to read this book in one sitting!
