One small town girl with a bright future. One smokejumper with a dark past. One summer that will forever change them both. They’re going . . .
Up In Flames.
Elle’s life couldn’t possibly get any more small town than it already is. She was raised in the same home as the two generations before her were, her family owns the iconic downtown cafe, and she’s been dating the pastor’s son since she was allowed to go on her first date at sixteen.
Cole’s life couldn’t possibly get any larger. He’s tried. Roaming from town to town for the past three summers as a smokejumper, Cole dreads the thought of putting down roots. The only thing he avoids more than that is settling down with one woman, especially when there are as many willing women as there are trees in the forest he jumps out of planes to save.
Elle Montgomery’s life is going one way. And Cole Carson’s is going the opposite. There’s no reason their paths should ever intersect, even in a small town in central Washington.
But summer in the Methow Valley has other plans for Elle and Cole. After an awkward run-in at the local swimming hole, Elle tries to keep away from the guy who looks at her like she’s already lying beneath him in bed. She fails. Cole is about as successful at staying away from the girl who seems immune to his charms.
As the summer heats up, and tensions between Elle and Cole run high, he begins to realize there’s more he’s attracted to than Elle’s body, and she discovers there’s a lot more to the man that jumps out of planes into raging forest fires than meets the eye.
UP IN FLAMES is a New Adult Romance intended for mature readers due to steamy content and saucy language.
*I was sent this book by the author in exchange for an honest review*
It’s no a secret that I am a big fan of Nicole Williams. From the way she can tell a story, to her smexy guys she writes, to the way she can just pull me in. Nicole is one of my favorite authors, and she always will be. So when I got the chance to read and review one of her books, well I was all over that like a girl obsessed with books… Yup, it made my day to have Up In Flames in my hands, even though it was a few weeks till I got a chance to read it. Now, if you are a fan of her Crash series, then you will love the steamy-ness that is this book.
"We were brought into the world naked and it's a damn shame somewhere along man's way he felt the need to cover up." Those eyes of his sparkled. "Because bodies like yours make clothing a real tragedy."
Elle, is a good girl.
But is that really Elle? She knows that isn’t true. She’s living up to everyone else’s expectations but hers.
And she’s tired of it.
She feels like she is being smothered.
Her father keeps a tight rope around her.
Her boyfriend already has their future, together, planned out.
Life for Elle is like drowning. That is, until she meets Cole Carson.
Cole is the all-around hot guy, tall, dark and rippled in all the right places.
He’s a smokejumper, he’s in town for the fire season.
And when Cole and Elle met, well, things seem to catch on fire.
He makes her question things, makes her want to live for her, he makes her feel free. But Elle’s life isn’t hers, it’s everyone else’s. She’s supposed to stay in her small town, run her family’s business and marry her high school boyfriend.
But with Cole, she is alive. And she loves that feeling.
Of course when Cole laughed, he sounded all swoony and sexy.
I just loved this story. I loved the characters, especially Cole! I enjoyed the plot, and felt that the pacing was really nice. And of course I loved Nicole’s writing style. She just has this ability to pull me right in, to sweep me away. I enjoy that so much.
Now, what can I say about her book? Can you say I maybe got a bit hot and bothered while reading it? Okay, correction, I got really hot and bothered! Cold showers will be needed!! This was a fast paced read. I enjoyed that, though at times it did feel a little too fast, but it didn't take anything away from the story.
For the characters, I really, REALLY enjoyed me some Cole Carson. I’d love to have him with a side of fries anytime, if you know what I mean! He’s the kind of guy I always fall for in books. Strong, dark looks, eyes that take your breath away, lives in the moment and, oh, so swoony. Plus, he’s got a way with words. I just loved this character; I might have a serious crush on him. Only thing though, when he got hurt he would bring it out, to its fullest. When he did that, I kind of wanted to smack him.
Then you have Elle, sweet, very innocent Elle. I did enjoy her character; she was a good balance for Cole. However, she did do some very stupid things, but I guess that’s just her naivety showing through. Elle has been living her life for everyone else, until Cole comes in. He makes her realize life is so much more. And she starts living it for her. At the end of the book, I really started looking up to Elle.
What I also just loved about this book was the steamy factor. And, Dear mother of all things that is holy in this land, was it steamy!! Just make sure you are alone when you read this bad boy! It’s not for innocent minds at all! But I felt Nicole did a really good job with all the swoony scenes.
I was able to really lose myself in this book, able to picture everything, see and feel the book. I got lost in it, and that makes it a great read. With the twists and turns, Nicole showed us she can write one hell of a story. It’s about finding real love, and taking a chance for it. It’s about living life for yourself, no one else.
If you are looking for steamy, passionate love, pick this book up. If you enjoy amazing guy characters, pick this book up! If you want a character that turns her life around, well, then give Up In Flames a try. I did, and I loved it!
