That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.
Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.
This book was just one emotional heart-felt read. A book I lost myself in, became invested in. I fall in love with the characters, I feel in love with the story. And most of all, I was mesmerized by Colleen Hoover’s beautiful words.
Colleen Hoover is an amazing author. I can say that without a doubt in my mind. I thought her Slammed series was spectacular, well, Hopeless was just as amazing, maybe even more so. This book was definitely more intense than Slammed, and it dealt with heavier issues. But it grabbed ahold of me, and wouldn’t let me go, even after I finished it.
Sky is a character I really enjoyed. She does have quite a few problems, and some issues she’s dealing with. But throughout the book, she really appeared to be a headstrong girl. A girl who can stand on her own feet. However, even though she is strong I got to see her sensitive side, and that made her a more relatable character. And with the situations that happened to her and what she is going through, she, to me, acted like a real person. She handled everything the best she could. In the end, I really admire Sky for her strength and her courage. Oh, and I cannot forget her sarcasm!! Loved that so much about Sky.“It’s what happens when two people become one: they no longer only share love. They also share all of the pain, heartache, sorrow, and grief.”
Dean Holder, a name I sigh to every time I see/read/hear it. Now, like Sky, he is a very complicated character. The minute he showed up, I could tell he would take not only Sky, but the story to a whole new level. And he did. Even though he have his secrets, he was a very swoon worthy guy/ dependable figure. I loved how he treated Sky. Holder, like Sky, is going through some very intense situations, but he tries his best to do what is right. He’s another fictional boy I so am crushing on.
I also really enjoyed the side characters that Colleen put in her book. She’s is very capable of making characters that not only read well, but feel like actually people you personally know. (If that makes any sense) Colleen created a good supporting cast of characters. The story also deals with some heavy issues, issues that just brought tears to my eyes and had me wanting to hug the main characters.
I had tears in my eyes at some points.“I swear I will spend every last breath thanking you for allowing yourself to love me.”
My breath in my throat.
Stomach in knots.
I couldn’t put this book down. I became truly invested into Sky and Holder. I wanted to know their story. Something I really enjoy where how Sky and Holder reacted to each other. They are two very intense characters. I know I’ve been saying intense a lot, that’s because this book was intense! Now, it definitely had AMAZING swoon worthy moments, HOTTT moments, and moments that made me laugh. But the book was more grippingly intense than anything. I enjoyed that the most.
I also enjoyed how Colleen played out the mystery in the story and the twists it takes. Now, it was kind of easy to put some of the pieces together, but that didn’t take away any of the wonderfulness of Hopeless.Colleen also has a writing style I just love; it pulls me in and captures my attention. It makes me totally, wholeheartedly, invested in the book and its characters. The pacing was done just right. I didn’t feel like the story was rushed, but that each event moved perfectly from one event to the next. Everything felt natural in the story. The way the characters reacted and the way the story built up.
“I’ve been looking for you my whole damn life.”
Hopeless was an amazing read. I definitely recommend this one if you are a Colleen Hoover fan, or if you love a good, well-built, intense, romance.
