New Adult Romance

Pixie and Levi haven't spoken in nearly a year when they find themselves working―and living―at the same inn in the middle of nowhere. Once upon a time, they were childhood friends. But that was before everything went to hell. And now things are... awkward.

All they want to do is avoid each other, and their past, for as long as possible. But now that they're forced to share a bathroom, and therefore a shower, keeping their distance from one another becomes less difficult than keeping their hands off each other. Welcome to the hallway of awkward tension and sexual frustration, folks. Get comfy. It’s going to be a long summer.

 My Thoughts

This was such a fun read! I really loved getting to know the characters and experiencing their stories. I also really enjoyed Chelsea’s writing style and how her story played out. Best Kind of Broken was a sweet story with an underlining darkness – not a gritty darkness though.

I usually don’t read romances that deal with old friends turned lovers element, but after reading this book, I think I need to pick up books that play with that theme more! Levi and Pixie’s relationship has changed so much over the last year, and when they are thrown back together the tension of the present and past are there. I think the pacing and development of their relationship built nicely. I loved how, at first, they are really at each other’s throats. Then, slowly, as their past was revealed, their relationship starts to build to how it used to be except way more sexually intense!
“He has me. He’s always had me. And I've never wanted to be had by anyone else.”
Pixie is a humorous character. I loved her inner monologues! She had me cracking up by the inner workings of her brain and thoughts. So I really enjoyed her character, but what made me love her was her persistent and determined nature. Pixie also came from a troubled home life, so to see her overcome that too was really endearing. She was such a fun character and I did love her cocky attitude!

Levi- love the name- really dug deep. He’s a conflicted character and that really did come through in the book. He and Pixie used to be friends, but when a tragedy happened close to them, their relationship really changed. I could feel how much the change in their relationship effected Levi. I really felt for his character because of this. But being able to see inside his head and why he acted the why he does just made me really love him as well.

As I mentioned, the sexual tension between Pixie and Levi was intense! I really loved experiencing it. These are two characters that worked so well together, like they truly belong together. And the buildup of that tension was also fun!
“You are not my friend, Pixie. You are a piece of my heart and a part of who I want to be.”
The development and how the story played out built so well with the plot. And the twists and bits of mystery really held my attention. I adored some of the side characters and really wanted to punch one (Pixie’s mom). Watching both Levi and Pixie grow throughout the book was a great experience. And they really do grow throughout the book and overcome their tragic pasts. I felt that Chelsea also did a really good job at that as well.

Best Kind of Broken was just a fun, sweet, fast read. Though it had an underlining essence of darkness, it maintained the element of joy. I really did adore this book and the characters! I definitely recommend this one to New Adult lovers who love a good heartfelt story line and interesting characters who overcome obstacles of their pasts and learn to love again!

  7. Yay! I'm so glad that you loved this book! I have it for review next week, and I can tell that I'm going to love the main characters! I love humorous characters, and the fact that Pixie is also persistent, and determined are going to have me rooting for her. I have a soft spot for characters that have gone through tragedy. Levi sounds like a character that I will enjoy reading about. Excellent Review Magen!
