Every sacrifice has consequences.
Sixteen-year-old Rowan has spent most of his life living among the mortals—learning to control the element of fire, impatiently awaiting the day his vengeful mother, Queen Prisma, will abdicate her throne. When he finally returns to Avalon for his coronation, his mother insists he must first prove his loyalty to the court by completing a secret mission:
Kill Kalin, the half-human, half-elemental daughter of the air court king.
Willing to do anything to remove his mother from power, he agrees to sacrifice the halfling. He returns to the mortal world with his best friend, Marcus, determined to kill the princess. But as he devises a plan, he starts to question whether or not he's capable of completing such a heinous task. And what price he will pay if he refuses.
The Shadow Prince is a great start to a series I am really looking forward to. It has everything I look for when I pick up a book: hot guy, magically world, a very captivating plot, and an intriguing world. Though this is a novella, and it took only two hours to read, I just enjoyed it so much!
Stacey really has set up her world for the first book in the series. And she has also given us a great little tidbit about a character I know I am so going to love. The magical elements and the world of Avalon was also very fascinating. I loved the representations of the elements, how they work in this world, and how they are ruled. I also loved the different, though few, creatures that was shown in the book.
There was no question what we planned to do was wrong. Yet, there was no other option.
In this novella, we meet young Rowan. Rowan is kind, fair, and wants to help his people. However, his world gets thrown for a loop when he has to do a certain something, and he’s character, by the end, definitely grew because of this. I loved that I got a bit of information and history about Rowan. And, boy, did I really love getting to know him! I can already tell he is going to be a fun character to watch and grow even more throughout the rest of the series. And to see how much he has changed by the first book. Though not a lot of his personality, after the events I cannot say that happened, is shown. I’m really looking forward to seeing him again and through the eyes of Kalin.
A few other characters are introduced and I’m really excited to see them in the next book. I’m really curious about Kalin and what she is going to be like, and to see the world through her eyes. I am also looking forward to seeing more of the world that Stacey has created and the creatures that inhabit it.
A lot did take place in this novella, so the pacing was fast and the detail not that deep. However, it was a wonderful and beautiful, if not simply, crafted story. Stacey has done a really wonderful job at setting up her series, and I am so excited to see where it is going to go and what is going to happen!
All in all, I give The Shadow Prince 4 magical stars! And I definitely recommend this novella to those who are excited about this upcoming series! It’s a fast paced with some amazing characters, a beautiful magical world, and a storyline that is filled with action and adventure!
