People come into our lives. Some stay, and many go. Some build us up, while most tear us down. They become our friends, our enemies, our lovers, our tormentors.

Christian Davison came into mine, and I knew I’d never be the same.

To Elizabeth Ayers, New York City had always been a dream. She’s worked her entire young life to make it here.

Groomed to one day take over his father’s law firm, attending Columbia University was Christian Davison’s only option.

Neither wanted anything more until they sat across from each other at a café table after being paired as study partners.

Christian wants her, but Elizabeth knows better than to give into their intense attraction. Yet there is little she can do to stay away.

Lost to You, the prequel to the bestselling romance, Take This Regret. A New Adult novella, recommended for readers 17+. It’s unnecessary to have read Take This Regret to enjoy Lost to You.

Review: Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas

Title: Mine Till Midnight
Series: The Hathaways, #1
Author: Lisa Kleypas
Category: Historical Fiction/ Romance
Genre: Adult
Rating: 3.5/4 stars out of 5
Their lives defy convention.

When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.

Their desire consumes them both.

Wealthy beyond most men’s dreams, Cam has tired of society’s petty restrictions and longs to return to his “uncivilized” Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship—but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter…

My Review

I'm very glad that I picked up Mine Till Midnight. It was a very enjoyable read and had a cast of such eccentric characters I just couldn't help but love! Each one had me either swooning or laughing, so I instantly loved Amelia and Cam. They were a combustible duo and their story was really fun to read!

I’ll be honest, this was my first time really reading a more mature historical romance. I’ve always enjoyed historical fiction books, but that was mostly when I was a bit younger, and not so into heavy romances. But I can say that I will be picking up more books like this one because it had my inner romance nerd pleasantly happy!
“The question, love, is whether you want me enough to take the risk.”
First and foremost I must talk about the characters. I enjoyed each one, even the bad guys. Kleypas did a great job at creating such diverse and unique characters. The Hathaway family was such an eccentric group, odd in many ways and I just adored them because of that. Amelia’s family rest on her shoulders and because of this she doesn’t really have time for romance, believing she’ll become a spinster. But as she gets tangled up in a certain gypsy man, her life definitely takes a turn she didn’t expect.  What I enjoyed about her was her strength and determination. Though that determination did make her a bit inflexible, I enjoyed that about her character.

Cam Rohan. My lord I just really enjoyed his character. A Roma who is living the life of a non-Roma.  I found that to be a very interesting aspect of the book and I loved the bit of gypsy influences in the book as well. Cam comes into Amelia’s life like a whirlwind, turning everything she knew upside down.  He was another strong and eccentric character, but I loved his fierce personality. And though he did struggle quite a bit with who he is, I was happy with where he was at the end of the book.

The chemistry between them was very hot, and I just enjoyed watching them dance around each other. Because once those sparks were ignited, boy, was it fun to watch Cam and Amelia combust. There were also some very nice steamy scenes in the book, but I loved that they weren’t too graphic, just the right kind of steamy for me. And by the end of the book, they really did grow quite a bit and I enjoyed watching each of their transformations.
“Cam has been an outsider for his entire life. Even when he lived with the Rom. I think he’s always secretly hoped he could someday find a place where he would belong. But until he met you, it didn’t occur to him that it might not be a place he was looking for, but a person.”
The book was a bit of a fast paced read, but I still enjoyed the pace.  I enjoyed the bits of mystery, history, twists, and myths that the author added to her story. The only problem with the book that I had was that I felt there were still too many unanswered questions. Of course, I’m sure they will be answered in the next book, but what worries me is that the next book is based on Amelia’s sister. So that does make me wonder how those questions will be answered.

Mine Till Midnight was really a good read and I am glad I picked up this story. I loved the gypsy aspects that where intertwined in the story along with the eccentric characters.  Cam and Amelia’s story was passionate and beautiful. I know I will be continuing this series!

Excerpt from FRAGILE REIGN

After Marcus left, the lack of sleep and overuse of my power had finally caught up to me. My lids were heavy, making it hard to keep my eyes open. I laid down on the nearest bed, sinking into the softness of the vanilla scented pillows. I could rest here until tomorrow, and then meet Kalin on the beach at sundown. As I closed my eyes, I imagined her in that sexy sundress with the ocean breeze wafting through her red curls. My lips tingled remembering the raspberry taste of her kisses. With all this craziness going on, she was the one thing that made sense. The only person who could make me forget about everything for a little while.

Kalin was the one I wanted. The only one I needed. I shook my head. What was wrong with me? It was too soon to be thinking about this stuff, right? It had only been a few weeks. And what did I know about real feelings, anyway? Had it not been for Marcus, I would never even know what it felt like to care for someone. Love was never part of my life. My mother thought love was a weakness—a totally worthless emotion compared to power and control.

But that still didn’t explain how I was feeling. Why everything seemed better when Kalin was around. Why my fingers ached to touch her. Why her pain shattered me to the core. I put my hands over my face. Or, maybe the lack of sleep was making me delusional. With a smirk, I gave in to the darkness that was overwhelming me and fell asleep.

Review: Avalon by Mindee Arnett

Title: Avalon
Series: Avalon, #1
Author: Mindee Arnett
Category: Science-Fiction/Adventure
Genre: Young Adult
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
A ragtag group of teenage mercenaries who crew the spaceship Avalon stumble upon a conspiracy that could threaten the entire galaxy in this fascinating and fast-paced sci-fi adventure from author Mindee Arnett.

Of the various star systems that make up the Confederation, most lie thousands of light-years from First Earth-and out here, no one is free. The agencies that govern the Confederation are as corrupt as the crime bosses who patrol it, and power is held by anyone with enough greed and ruthlessness to claim it. That power is derived from one thing: metatech, the devices that allow people to travel great distances faster than the speed of light.

Jeth Seagrave and his crew of teenage mercenaries have survived in this world by stealing unsecured metatech, and they're damn good at it. Jeth doesn't care about the politics or the law; all he cares about is earning enough money to buy back his parents' ship, Avalon, from his crime-boss employer and getting himself and his sister, Lizzie, the heck out of Dodge. But when Jeth finds himself in possession of information that both the crime bosses and the government are willing to kill for, he is going to have to ask himself how far he'll go to get the freedom he's wanted for so long.

Avalon is the perfect fit for teens new to sci-fi as well as seasoned sci-fi readers looking for more books in the YA space-and a great match for fans of Joss Whedon's cult hit show Firefly.

My Review

Avalon was right up there with all the science-fiction I just can’t get enough. And being such a huge sci-fi geek, I’m glad that I did pick this series up. I know I will be keeping up with Jeth and his crew.

I think what really drew me in, other than the setting, was the array of interesting characters. Each one was interesting in their own right and I enjoyed each and every one. I also loved that the main character was male. It’s nice to be inside a guy’s mind once and awhile; to step away from all the female protagonists.

Jeth was such a strong character and I loved his determination to protect the ones he loved and held dear. That really came through in the book because of the situations he gets put into. He gets entangled in a very dangerous web, and though he is a young man he never really bowed down to the threats and dangers. He had so much on his shoulders; it was amazing to see such a clear, level-headed and strong individual.

I also enjoyed the relationship he had with his sister. It was heartwarming in the way they protected and cared for each other. I enjoyed that Arnett put in a strong family factor in her book. I loved Lizzie, she was such an adorable young girl and so very smart. I know I can’t wait to see where she goes in the next books.

Though there is quite a cast of characters, there was one that just didn’t sit very well with me. The actions of this character took a very, er, wide turn and that left me in the dust for a while. Though I did understand some of the reasons as to why, I just couldn't believe that this character would be forgiven so easily by Jeth and his crew.
“He didn't know if it was real, if freedom was something you could earn or win after a long, hard fight, or if it was just an illusion. But he decided it didn't matter. Only this mattered. This moment right here, surrounded by the people he cared about. And he realized this was the paradise his parents had meant when they named this ship.”
The atmosphere and word building –along with the sci-fi technology - was such an interesting factor and well written in my opinion. I was really able to get lost in the world that Arnett created.  I just loved the mysteries and the twists that I really didn’t see coming. I also like that Arnett allows her readers to imagine the world she created, just giving us enough detail to see, but also allow for our imaginations to play free.  The story also built nicely and though it did have a few slow moments, I enjoyed the pace.

However, as much as I just enjoyed this book, I felt there wasn't much room for the characters to grow. The characters were already so strong and well-developed that I felt Arnett didn’t allow for more personal growth. But I am hoping that will happen in the next books. I would love to see the characters get tested and challenged to grow even more!

Avalon was just the kind of science-fiction that I absolutely adore! A perfect book for sci-fi fans like myself who love getting lost in space and exploring different worlds.

Review: Dire by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Title: Dire
Series: The Dire Wolves Chronicles, #1
Author: Alyssa Rose Ivy
Category: Paranormal/Romance
Genre: New Adult
Rating: 4 stars out of 5

* Book received in exchange for a fair and honest review*
Gage was the first guy I ever wanted. He was my first crush and my first fantasy, but he wasn't my first in any other way because he never saw me as anything more than a friend— at least not until the night that changed everything.

It was all Gage's fault. He insisted we drive through the storm and take the back roads. By the time the storm hit full force we had no chance. One night of snowbound sex changed our relationship forever. The problem was at the same time I caught another guy’s attention. This other guy happened to be the alpha of a pack of shifter wolves. I thought the wolves were the worst of my problems, but I was wrong. When things went from bad to worse I had to make a lifelong sacrifice to save Gage, but what price is too much to save the one you love?

My Review

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I’m glad I had the opportunity to read it. I also know I am definitely going to be keeping up with the series as well. The book was fast-paced, but didn’t feel very rushed. The characters get tossed into a situation that was very interesting, scary, and not what I expected at all. I honestly didn’t know where the storyline was going and I think Ivy did a good job at keeping me guessing. The detail was simple, but still enough for me to feel the characters, their personalities, and the world they get thrown into.
I did enjoy the characters. Gage was a very nice guy. And he wasn’t the cocky, pushing love interest either. I think he brought in a bit of freshness. Mary Anne was sweet, but didn’t think too highly of herself. But in the end, I saw that she has a will of steel. The relationship between Gage and Mary Anne played out nicely, though it did develop really fast.  But the chemistry was very much there. The challenges they faced were unreal, testing in so many ways, and very much frightening. I enjoyed watching how they reacted and grew from those experiences.
"What's wrong?" "That noise. It was like a howl." She shivered, and I knew it wasn't from the cold. "A howl?" I held her tighter. "Like a wolf?" She didn't need to answer, a loud howl filled the silent night.
The building of the conflict was probably my favorite aspect of the story. It was intense, kept me guessing, and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The villains are not what I imagine either, another aspect I loved.

Oh! And that ending! It left in such a cliffhanger I know I will be grabbing the next book as soon as it’s out!

Dire was definitely not like any werewolf book I have encountered before. I couldn't put it down once I started it. It was filled with gripping action, intense situations, and quite a bit of thrill. Dire was a quick read, but had a very creepy feel to it.

Burying Water

The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.

The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.
