About the book:
Sometimes secrets kill. Maybe slowly, maybe painfully. Maybe all at once.

Melissa smiles. She flirts. She jokes. But she never shows her scars. Eight months after tragedy ripped her from her closest friend, Melissa is broken. Plagued by grief, rage, and the painful memory of a single forbidden kiss.

Javier has scars of his own. Life in the States was supposed to be a new beginning, but a boy obsessed by vengeance has no time for the American dream. To honor his familia, Javier joins the gang who set up his cousin, Diego. The entrance price is blood. Death is the only escape.

Two broken souls could make each other whole again—or be shattered forever.

Our time will come. And we’ll be ready.

EXCERPT:
“What I want is for you to want me like I want you!”
I clamp a hand to my mouth. Regret slaps me in the face.
Javier pulls my hand away. His stare takes in all of me. My eyes. My lips. I’m embarrassed by what I said. I’m embarrassed by my ridiculous heart, which thumps loudly, echoing his every touch.
“You want me, mami?”
Yes. In the deepest parts of my bones, yes.
Silence.
“Answer me.” His voice is demanding.
“No,” I say, stubborn.
A grin crawls across his face.
“I owe you an apology,” he says. “I couldn’t talk to you earlier. Wanted to. But I couldn’t. You understand?”
“Not at all.”
Javier’s warmth reminds me of the water. Of wanting to jump in. I’d do anything to cool off.
“If I explain it to you, will you remember in the morning?”

“Probably not,” I answer honestly. “But then again, you’re hard to forget.”

Review: Perfect Kind of Trouble (Finding Fate #2) by Chelsea Fine

Title: Perfect Kind of Trouble
Series: Finding Fate, #2
Author: Chelsea Fine
Category: Contemporary Romance
Genre: New Adult
Rating: 3.5/4 stars out of 5
*ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review*
Sometimes when perfect falls apart, a little trouble fixes everything . . .

Twenty-one-year-old Kayla Turner has lost everything. After spending most of her life taking care of her ailing mother, she just wants to spot a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. So when her late father-a man she barely knew-leaves her an inheritance, she finally breathes a sigh of relief . . . until she learns the inheritance comes with strings. Strings in the form of handsome playboy Daren Ackwood, her father's protégé. To see any of her inheritance, she's forced to team up with him. From his expensive car to those sexy dimples, Kayla's seen his type before. But Daren isn't who he seems to be . . .

Struggling to make amends for his family's mistakes, Daren has a life more Oliver Twist than Richie Rich these days. He's beyond grateful that James Turner included him in his will, but working with Turner's princess of a daughter to fulfill his cryptic last wish is making Daren wonder if being broke is really so bad. Still, she's just as beautiful as she is stubborn, and the more time he spends with Kayla, the less it feels right being without her. Soon Daren and Kayla begin to wonder if maybe the best gift Kayla's dad could have left them . . . was each other.

My Review:

Perfect Kind of Trouble was such a fun and sweet read! I enjoyed Kayla and Daren oh, so much and loved the situation they get thrown into! Fine has created another book that was just as fun and sexily charged as her first book in the series.
I slant my eyes to Daren in the barstool next to to me and bite my lip. If fifteen-year-old Daren looked appetizing without his shirt on, I bet twenty-one-year-old Daren looks downright delicious. Ugh. No. No, Kayla. Boys are bad.
What I enjoyed so much about this one is the situation the two characters, Daren and Kayla, get thrown into. Being handcuffed together and then forced to go on a ridiculous scavenger hunt made the story fun and very endearing to read. That situation also made me really feel for the characters and connect to them.  It also allowed a nice chemistry tension to fully develop between Daren and Kayla; which I loved watching grow.

Both Kayla and Daren have some major money problems. They each have reached the end of their ropes; they are sad and very unhopeful for their futures. It’s like only bad luck has been following them around lately, but when an opportunity comes up that can change their lives, for the better, they really don’t hesitate to take advantage of it.

Daren and Kayla are some interesting characters. I say that because they each have preconceived notions about each other which, of course, leads to many assumptions that they have to overcome.  That also brings in some wonderful tension between these two characters. Kayla is a hard working chick and I loved watching her overcome her past and figure out her future. I admired her fierceness and snarky attitude.

Daren is a cocky character; however, he isn’t the full-of-himself kind of cocky.  He is actually very kind and very sweet. I loved that he is assure of himself yet not in the same way.

The tension is so palpable in this story, and I loved watching Kayla and Daren overcome their preconceived ideas of each other. The chemistry between them was there from the beginning, but as the story progresses it becomes very noticeable. I joyed reading and watching it grow. I also loved the transformations they go through and the character growth they each experience.
Why the hell does this girl affect me like she does? One minute, I'm pissed at her for hating her father, and the next I want to comfort her and feed her cookies and shit. I'm a nutcase around her.
The plot moved at a very decent pace and I loved the obstacles the characters have to overcome. It all builds nicely and flowed very well with the storyline. The only factor I have a complaint about was the ending; it just felt a bit rushed. Everything else, however, flowed  very nicely. Despite the one little issue I had, I so enjoyed this book! I definitely recommend this series if you want a fun, sweet, and sexy read!

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.

So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

EXCERPT:
Ben

     I love the angry ones.
Of course, anyone who knows me would argue that I love any and all women, and I can’t exactly disagree. But I love the angry ones the most. They’re a challenge to be conquered, the reason for their fury usually fitting neatly into three buckets: insecure, scorned, hormonal.
And this chick gazing up at me with fire in her caramel eyes?
I’m betting on bucket number two.
“My, what an awfully bright red shirt you have on,” she pushes out between gritted teeth, as if she’s trying to be polite but can’t hide her disdain.
I didn’t know what I was walking into when the punk-rock chick with the crazy-ass muscular body waved us over, but her friend with the purple hair and her back to me had me intrigued. Now that I’m getting a good look at her face, I know who I’m spending my last night with in Cancún. She’s not what some would call traditionally “pretty.” Her eyes are slightly too big and far apart, her nose is slightly too long and slender, and her lips—though nice and wide—are on the thin side. Yet something about all of that put together makes her sexy as hell. Maybe it’s the little nose ring. Or maybe it’s the way her decent-sized tits are pressing up against me, her low V-neck tank top—a casual shirt, telling me she’s not trying to pick anyone up—giving me a fine view of her cleavage. Whatever it is, my dick is certainly pleased. “You like it?” I ask.
An irritated glare flickers to the material. “No.”
I can’t help but chuckle at her candor. “Will you at least give me a head start before you gore me?”
Those thin lip curls into a condescending smirk. “Bulls don’t see color. That’s a myth.”
The only thing I love more than an angry girl is a smart, angry girl.
This is going to be fun.
“Well, how about I solve the problem for you.” I take a step back from her and swiftly yank my shirt off, exposing six days of suntanned skin and an upper body that I know looks damn appealing because I work my ass off to keep it that way. The random catcalls from the tables around confirm it.
And then I simply stand there and grin like the cocky ass that I am as Angry Girl can’t keep her eyes from scanning the muscles I’ve honed since my college football days, her lips parting ever so subtly. I see the shift in her, the moment where she realizes that, though she’d prefer to castrate the entire male species right now, she can’t ignore her attraction to me.
At least, that’s what I want to see.

Cole Reynolds had it all. And then one night he makes a bad choice... and loses everything.

When a drunken night out at a Michigan State college party results in the death of six people, Cole must come to terms with his part in the tragedy. Normally, he'd be able to lean on his best friends. The best friends that have been in his life since he could barely walk. Only, they're gone. Worse, there's the shattered body of a sixteen-year-old girl lying somewhere in a hospital bed, her entire life ripped from her because of a case of beer and a set of keys.

Everyone assures him that they know it wasn't intentional and yet he can't ignore the weight of their gazes, the whispers behind his back. The all-consuming guilt he feels every time he thinks of that girl who won't so much as allow him near her hospital room to apologize. As the months go by and the shame and loneliness festers, Cole begins to lose his grip of what once was important-college, his girlfriend, his future. His life. It's not until Cole hits rock-bottom that he can begin to see another way out of his personal hell: forgiveness.

And there's only one person who can give that to him...

Review: The Gray Wolf Throne (Seven Realms, #3) by Cinda Williams Chima

Title: The Gray Wolf Throne
Series: Seven Realms, #3
Author: Cinda Williams Chima
Category: High Fantasy/ Adventure/ Romance
Genre: Young Adult
Rating: 5 stars out of 5
Han Alister thought he had already lost everyone he loved. But when he finds his friend Rebecca Morley near death in the Spirit Mountains, Han knows that nothing matters more than saving her. The costs of his efforts are steep, but nothing can prepare him for what he soon discovers: the beautiful, mysterious girl he knew as Rebecca is none other than Raisa ana’Marianna, heir to the Queendom of the Fells. Han is hurt and betrayed. He knows he has no future with a blueblood. And, as far as he’s concerned, the princess’s family as good as killed his own mother and sister. But if Han is to fulfill his end of an old bargain, he must do everything in his power to see Raisa crowned queen.

Meanwhile, some people will stop at nothing to prevent Raisa from ascending. With each attempt on her life, she wonders how long it will be before her enemies succeed. Her heart tells her that the thief-turned-wizard Han Alister can be trusted. She wants to believe it—he’s saved her life more than once. But with danger coming at her from every direction, Raisa can only rely on her wits and her iron-hard will to survive—and even that might not be enough.

The Gray Wolf Throne is an epic tale of fierce loyalty, unbearable sacrifice, and the heartless hand of fate.

My Review:

Oh, the plot thickens!  The third book in the Seven Realms series was just absolutely wonderful in my opinion.  The plot, as mentioned, is thickening, becoming more diverse, interesting, leaving me craving for the next book! The characters are developing remarkably, growing and adapting to the situations they are thrown into. And of course the evil that is lurking is becoming more treacherous, sinister, lurking in the politics that both main characters must get involved with.
“She's tough for a blueblood, he'd thought, a lifetime ago. Maybe tough enough to be with him. He hadn't considered that he might not be tough enough to be with her.”
Both Han and Raisa have grown so much since the first book. Han used to be an ex-street lord, doing what he could to support his mother and sister. So much has changed for him since then, and I can definitely say that I am proud of the development he has grown through. He does still have a ways to go. But what I enjoy seeing is his cunning smarts and how he follows his heart.  He is a perceptive character and I loved watching him use that to help him and those around him.

Raisa has also grown quite a bit since the first book as well, though not as much as Han in my opinion. But I can see the maturity more now in Raisa. She is a romantic at heart, but she has calmed down a bit with the flirting…since she has met Han. What I still enjoy about her character is her strong will and determination to put her throne, others, before herself. Though she is hotheaded, she’s a strong willed young woman.

Of course, they still have growing to do, but I am amazed by how much they have grown since the first book.  But I have to say it is the budding romance that I enjoy so much between them. Though I do wish there were more romantic and sweet scenes between them. I can really feel the developing love they have.  And I also can’t wait to see where their love will go and how it will test them both.
“She'd never felt safer -- she'd never felt more alive than when she was dying in Han Alister's arms.”
This book is also filled with quite an array of characters. I enjoy so many of them! But I also have to mention the villains in this tale.  They are quite the evil bunch, manipulating and conniving.  I enjoyed them just as much as the side characters!

Those many might find the pacing of this book to be a bit dragging, I felt for a high fantasy it was well done. I loved the action that was mixed in with the slower scenes. The plot is thickening and the world is growing magnificently.  The development in characters is also such a joy to watch.

All in all, I absolutely love the complex and diverse story that Chima has developed. Each book seems to bring and answer questions while adding intense, gripping action, cutthroat politics, magic, and a star-crossed romance. I adore this series and the characters! And I can't wait to start the last book in the series! I do recommend this series for those who enjoy a very diverse high fantasy world filled with politics, adventure and magic!
