This is the second book in the BLACK SHADOWS duet, Cass and Calder's story. You must read GOLD SHIMMER before reading STEEL RUSH.
Cass has spent years trying to forget her past. But the thing about pasts…they always come back around, sometimes in the most unexpected ways. When Celeste goes missing, Cass discovers how intricately entangled her past and present are with Celeste's, making it impossible to walk away.
In an effort to ignore his own painful history, Calder challenges a corrupt, underground organization, but his mission gets sidelined when Cass’s life becomes endangered.
The passion simmering between Calder and Cass tempts them to share their darkest secrets, but can their trust in each other help them unravel the mystery surrounding Celeste? Can they eliminate the threat to Cass before the past overshadows the present and destroys their intense connection?
Note: STEEL RUSH is meant for readers 18+ due to mature content. This is the second book in the BLACK SHADOWS duet, Cass and Calder’s love story. The first book, GOLD SHIMMER, must be read before STEEL RUSH. The BLACK SHADOWS duet (books 4 and 5) can be read as a stand alone story or as part of the IN THE SHADOWS series.
Steel Rush is beyond a doubt an emotional devastating, raw, and sizzling read filled with a thrilling and mysterious plot. Getting more of Calder’s story, which was beyond heartbreaking, was a great insight to why he acted the way he did. And Cass is such a deep person, so emotionally scarred but also incredibly strong.
Oh, how I just love the characters. Witnessing Calder's history, his past, being revealed really opened my eyes. I was able to completely understand and connect with him. I understood why he acted the way he did. It was a very emotional part of the book and left my heart aching for him. The same goes for Cass. I connected with her even more in this book because she finally allows her walls to come down, if not slowly. Seeing her step up, finally putting down that wall she held between her and Calder, well, that was beyond a wonderful thing.
He makes me forget who I am... who I'm supposed to be. I'm want and need...and passion.
There was a lot more character growth in Steel Rush than there was in Gold Shimmer. Though it did take Cass and Calder a while to let their walls down and surrender to each other but when they did, I couldn’t have been more happy and ecstatic for them. Their growth definitely moved nicely along with the book and I could really feel them overcoming their own personal obstacles despite the intense situation they were in. And of course I must talk about the chemistry between them! It was by far more intense than the last book. The pull between them undeniable! The steamy scenes left me a pile of liquid goo.
The movement throughout the book was evenly paced and moved at a very comfortable flow. It kept me enthralled and wanting to see what was going to happen next. The suspense, the mystery, was so thick and so well written I honestly couldn’t figure out who was who and what was going to happen next. That captured my attention and left me riveted. The development of the characters, like the last book, was well placed in the story. I felt like I got the full story of each one by the end of the book and I wasn’t left with questions about their past. I was also so happy to see Talia and Sebastian in this one. I adore those two!
Stepping close, he cups the back of my neck and rasps against my cheekbone, "You can't ignore this kind of chemistry, angel."
Steel Rush was a wonderful installment to this series. The book and the characters really got under my skin, in the best way possible. I adored each character and loved being a part of their journey. This series is a MUST read in my opinion!
